Future Energy Supply
The future of the world’s energy supply is one of the biggest challenges facing mankind today. With a heavy reliance upon fossil fuels which drives climate change, it has finally been accepted that we must wean ourselves off this reliance.
Furthermore even without the threat of climate change, the fact is that the earth’s fossil fuel stores are rapidly dwindling, while the demand continues to grow and grow. As such we face a situation where soon enough there will be no more fossil fuels left while the majority of our civilisation relies upon it. Research into more sustainable forms of energy supply is the only hope.
The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has published a report which removes all doubt that climate change is due to human activity.
The study is the most comprehensive on the subject to date and significantly states human induced carbon emissions will almost certainly increase global temperature rise by up to 4 degrees C by the end of the century, and possibly 6.4 degrees.
This is far beyond the widely-accepted danger threshold of 2 deg.C, and will cause massive loss of life, species loss, humanitarian and economic catastrophe.
